If I Could Be a Bird

I wouldn’t want to live in a cage. Sure, humans can be creatures with a nurturing nature. They can also be good company to observe and have private laughs at. But I’d rather spend my time flying. So it may sound cliche, but what is it really like to fly without chains, without strongholds, without limitations? Maybe it’s cliche because it needs to be said more than once. Maybe, because it hasn’t been accomplished yet.

Every time man flies, he needs something like a plane to carry him. Even then, those rides can be quite bumpy–sometimes even devastating.

Many speak of angels. They say they’ll just wait to get to heaven and they can fly all they want. But why wait? For some of us, hopefully–I think–we might be here for awhile. What do we do in the meantime? What the robins show us the tricks and listen to the ravens mock at our immobilities.

I, too, know why the caged bird sings.
